Respiratory Care is a life support/life enhancing therapy provided by a licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) under the direction of a physician for patients with various diseases and disorders of the cardiopulmonary system, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema and asthma.
At BCMH, respiratory therapy provided to inpatients may include medical gas therapy, bronchopulmonary hygiene, administering of pharmacological agents to treat pulmonary disorders, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and maintenance of artificial airways.
Outpatient respiratory therapy services available at BCMH include cardiac monitoring, pulmonary function testing, oximetry testing, and patient education regarding cardiopulmonary diseases and disorders.
