The Rehabilitation Services Department of Baraga County Memorial Hospital provides Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy in a variety of settings for local residents. Therapy can be provided to patients in the hospital setting, at home (for those who are homebound), or at the outpatient clinic in BCMH Rehab & Fitness Center downtown L’Anse.

The physical therapists at BCMH work to decrease pain, improve range of motion and strength, improve balance and safety and overall functional mobility. They also work with people to help them maintain their independence as long as possible. Physical therapy can be helpful to anyone who is experiencing increased pain or difficulty with everyday tasks.

BCMH’s occupational therapists help improve people’s ability to complete their daily routine activities, including self-care, dressing, bathing, feeding, and household tasks. BCMH has occupational therapists who specialize in Lymphedema Therapy; which is used to treat any abnormal swelling of one or more body parts, including arms, legs, neck, breast and abdomen. Pediatric occupational therapy is another specialty area provided at BCMH, for those with developmental delays or sensory integration issues.

Speech therapy, at BCMH, is provided, by a speech language pathologist, to people who have communication disorders stemming from disease or injury. Speech therapists also treat people who are suffering from swallowing disorders.
