The Activities Assistant assists in carrying out a scheduled program of activities in a therapeutic manner, to promote both the cognitive and physical independence of the Baraga County Memorial Hospital Swing Bed patients (extended care). 

REPORTS TO: 

Nursing Supervisor 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Must be a high school graduate. 
  • Successful completion of a formal nurse aide program and current certification preferred.
  • Must have the ability to communicate and maintain rapport with other department staff and patient families. 
  • Must be able to assist lifting or transferring patients. 
  • Flexibility in working hours. 

POSITION DUTIES: ESSENTIAL 

  • Implements organized activities with the residents according to the Activities calendar. 
  • Assists with the volunteer activities, if applicable. 
  • Works flexible shifts, as needed. 
  • Assists Swing beds during activities, visits one on one and documents all activities. 
  • Will assist the Nursing Supervisor in carrying out scheduled activities for the day, balancing interests, needs, capacity and age involving recreational, physical, psycho social, emotional, religious, arts and crafts, diverse to intellectual, following posted monthly calendar. 
  • Assists in personal care such as bathing, hair care, or nail care if requested. 
  • Must be aware of patients’ individual interests, needs, diets and physical limitations when implementing activity plans. 
  • Carry out special activities if requested, such as birthday party/family celebrations. 
  • Assists with one on one activities or visits at bedside for those residents who do not or can not attend activities. Notifies the Nursing Supervisor of any patient or family concerns regarding activities. 
  • Brings any concerns or problems regarding job related issues to the attention of the Nursing. 
  • Is creative and suggests new ideas for activity plans to the Supervisor. 
  • Follows Patient’s Rights policies at all times. 
  • Complies with HIPAA requirements for security and confidentiality. 
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of BCMH Corporate Compliance plan, Code of Conduct and reporting process of any compliance concerns. 
  • Shall be responsible for completing Educational requirements. 
  • Observes all infection control and safety policies and procedures. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

An individual in this position will be required to carry or lift weights in the range of:
Up to 25 pounds frequently
Up to 50 pounds occasionally
